About Us

What is MUNA?

The Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) is an annual one-day event that is part of an International Rotary project to educate senior high school students on the United Nations organisation and its vital commitment to world peace, in addition to health, education, and living standards around the world.

The event provides an excellent forum for students to develop and practise their public speaking skills whilst debating on topical world issues.

History of MUNA

MUNA as a concept arose in North America from the desire of young people to simulate the great debates of the United Nations Assembly.

MUNA was first held by Rotary in Winnipeg, Canada, and was introduced to Australia by the Rotary Club of Lake Cargelligo in 1980. MUNA has spread throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and worldwide.

The United Nations continues to give enthusiastic support for the ongoing growth of this very worthwhile Model United Nations Assembly project for youth.

Youth Protection

Rotary Youth Volunteer Information & Declaration (Form 3)

Legislation requires districts and clubs to not allow members and volunteers to have direct contact with children if they do not have a valid Working With Children Card. Rotary International and our insurers require that district and clubs apply the same restriction to members and volunteers without a verified Rotary Youth Volunteer Information & Declaration (Form 3).

Committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Rotary core values: fellowship, integrity, diversity, service, and leadership. This code of conduct reflects Rotary core values and explains the responsibility that comes with being a Rotarian and Rotaractor, which includes members from nearly every country in the world, speaking over 100 different languages. We are committed to upholding and evolving this code.
